Holyoke, Mass. letterpress printer also receives national recognition
Hitchcock Press of Holyoke, Mass., has launched a line of distinctive letterpress printed note cards. The launch took place at the Holyoke Heritage State Park Visitor’s center earlier this fall in conjunction with the opening of the Holyoke Manufacturer’s Product Showcase.
The note cards were designed by Hitchcock Press owner J. Guy Gaulin, an artist who began his graphic arts career as a letterpress printer when the craft flourished, and whose devotion to the craft has never wavered. These note cards are aimed at the market created by the renaissance of letterpress printing. New art forms have emerged in the computer age that when combined with old crafts such as letterpress printing result in new and exciting objects whose beauty and elegance as prized. These letterpress note cards are an example of this novel art. They will be produced by Hitchcock Press on its premises under Gaulin’s supervision. They will be available at specialty retail stores and through the printing company’s web site,
Award of Recognition for firm
Hitchcock earned an Award of Recognition at the Premier Print Awards competition for outstanding achievement in the special innovation category. The Premier Print Awards event is graphic arts industry’s largest and most prestigious worldwide printing awards competition, which recognizes companies responsible for the creation and production of outstanding print communications.
The annual event is organized and hosted by Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF). Hitchcock Press is a member of Printing Industries of New England, the New England regional affiliate to PIA/GATF.
Hitchcock Press won an Award of Recognition for its letterpress printed note card entry "Grànge a Pépére Rousseau." This entry is part of a line of distinctive letterpress printed note cards designed and printed by Gaulin. This series of note cards are letter-pressed in black and three value of gray ink on Montval mould made paper.
Competing against more than 5,200 entries from firms around the world, Hitchcock Press earned the award which honors the top finalists in each category of the competition. Just 313 Awards of Recognition were distributed this year.
