HOLYOKE, MASSACHUSETTSAugust 10, 2005 – Hitchcock Press Inc. of Holyoke, Massachusetts received a 2005 Premier Print Award for outstanding achievement in the “special innovation category”. The graphic arts industry’s largest and most prestigious worldwide printing competition, hosted by PIA/GATF, the Premier Print Awards recognizes those responsible for the creation and production of outstanding print communications.

Hitchcock Press won an Award of Recognition for their letterpress printed note card entry “Grange à Pépère Rousseau”. This entry is part of a line of distinctive letterpress printed note cards designed by owner and artist J. Guy Gaulin who began his long Graphic Arts career as a letterpress printer when the craft flourished. This series of note cards is letterpressed in black and three values of gray ink on Montval mould made paper.  The complete line of note cards is aimed at the market created by the renaissance of letterpress printing. The line is slated to be launched in September 2005 and it will be available in upscale stores and on www.hitchcockpress.com

Competing against more than 5,200 entries from printing and graphic arts firms around the world, the judges bestowed on Hitchcock Press the award which honors the top finalists in each category of the competition. Just 313 of the Award of Recognition were distributed in this year’s competition.

This is the first year we entered the Premier Print Awards. To come away with an Award of Recognition is a thrill said J. Guy Gaulin, artist and president, “It’s an honor to be recognized by the industry as a company that produces top quality, award winning materials.”

Michael Makin, president and CEO of PIA/GATF, agrees.  “Each year, the field of entries attracts  impressive work from some of the best printers in the world. Only a very small number receive an Award of Recognition. The craftsmanship and hard work of Hitchcock Press enabled them to produce an award winning piece in the face of some very stiff competition.”

PIA/GATF hosts the Premier Print Awards. In its 56th year, the annual contest recognizes those responsible for the creation and production of print communications.  The event promotes excellence in print communications and rewards companies and individuals who produce the best in print media.
